CLEVELAND, Ohio - Two Southern Illinois swimmers earned a spot on the Mid-American Conference All-Conference Team, the conference announced. Calvin Kolar and Kegan Skelton earned a spot on the All-Academic first team, while eight Salukis earned a spot on the honorable mention All-Academic team.
Calvin Kolar, a sophomore, has a 3.816 GPA and has not declared a major. He was a second-team All-Conference swimmer this year after finishing in the top-five in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes. In both breaststrokes, Kolar posted the second-fastest time in school history. He won four events this past year.
Kegan Skelton, another sophomore, has a 3.22 GPA in management. Skelton was a second-team All-Conference diver this past season, finishing second in the three-meter dive. Skelton won 10 events on the year, sweeping the one- and three-meter dives at five meets.
Caleb Coots, Jacob Lucheon, Jeff Chen, Thomas Defay, Andrew Spencer, Matt Frey, Shaun Wolfe and Csaba Gercsak all earned spots on the honorable mention All-Academic team.
The Salukis men's team is one of the best academic programs in the country. SIU posted the eighth-highest team GPA in the country for the fall 2012 semester at 3.33, the highest GPA in the MAC.
First-team Academic All-Conference selections were selected by faculty-athletic representatives from each institution. Honorable mention selections were swimmers and divers that qualified for All-Academic status but were not selected to the first team.
Eligible athletes had a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, competed in at least half of the contests this year and had been at the institution for more than one year.
