Salukis fall in MVC Championship to Wichita State, 4-0

WICHITA, Kans. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team fell in the finals of the Missouri Valley Team Championships to top-seeded Wichita State, 4-0 on Sunday, ending its season with a 19-5 overall record.
Wichita State (14-10) began the match by winning two of three doubles matches. The Shockers then took three singles matches to end the contest, according to MVC tournament rules.
SIU sets a new record for most wins in a season with 19 while finishing this season with the highest winning percentage in school history at .791, surpassing last years mark when the team finished 17-6 for a .739 winning percent.
Senior Melanie Delsart finishes her career with an overall doubles record of 79-34 which places her second all-time in career doubles wins in school history behind Alessendra Molinari (95). Delsart ranks No. 19 in school history in career singles wins with 68.
Fellow seniors Anastacia Simons (106) and Jennifer Dien (124) also have over 100 career wins.
"We fought hard today and played them much harder then last time. I am proud of the team and how they competed," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "We are sad to lose such a great class of seniors and I just want to thank them for their years of hard work."
