CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving programs earned Scholar All-America honors by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for the spring 2013 semester.
The men's team posted a 3.16 GPA in the spring semester, good for the 36th-best GPA in the country. The women's team posted a 3.43 GPA to also earn recognition with the 43rd-best GPA in the country.
The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
"Our athletes continue to impress me with their abilities to withstand the workloads of pool training and classroom work," said head coach Rick Walker. "Kristina Therriault and her academic staff do an amazing job keeping our athletes on the right path -- and going on 27 years here at SIU we have never missed the standard for being an Academic All-American Team which is simply amazing."
