CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team is set to open the regular season on Saturday, as the team travels to Evansville, Ind., to face the University of Evansville.
Last season, SIU swept both meets against the Purple Aces and will look to have a repeat performance this year.
The men's team will have several veterans returning, including junior Till Pallmann. Pallmann was a First Team All-MAC selection a year ago after setting the MAC record in the 200- and 500-yard Freestyle. Second Team All-MAC selections Calvin Kolar and Kegan Skelton also return.
After earning third place at the NCAA Championships in the three-meter dive, Kaixuan 'Sherry' Zhang looks to get her junior campaign started on the right foot. An All-American and First Team All-MVC selection ago, Zhang returns as one of the most decorated divers in school history. During the MVC Championships, Zhang broke the school and MVC Championship records in both the one and three-meter dives.
Head coach Rick Walker enters his 23rd year as the head coach and 28th year overall at SIU. Walker is a 12-time Coach of the Year award winner.
