CARBONDALE, Ill.- Southern Illinois University has named Elise Knoche as the new assistant swimming and diving coach, head coach Rick Walker announced on Friday. Knoche will work primarily with the swimming team.
"We are excited about having Elise completing our staff," said Walker. "She is a quality coach who knows her way around the pool deck but above all she is a quality individual who has high standards for her athletes and a high expectation for winning.
Knoche joins the Salukis after spending the past two seasons as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at Olivet College. Prior to her time at Olivet, Knoche also had coaching stints at the University of St. Thomas, Oberlin College, and Carleton College.
"I would like to thank the members of the search committee and head coach Rick Walker for the opportunity to join the SIU Swimming and Diving Coaching Staff," said Knoche. "I am excited to be a Saluki, and to be able to join not only a great swimming and diving program, but also a great school and athletic department."
Hailing from Madison, Wis., Knoche brings a wealth of experience to SIU. At Carleton College, Knoche became one of the most decorated swimmers in school history. During her time competing for the Knights, Knoche became a two time All-American, while earning six Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships. She was also an Academic All-American in 2005, and was named the Most Valuable Athlete on Carleton's women's swimming and diving team twice (2003-04, 05-06).
"I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes, coaches and staff to continue to provide excellent student-athlete experiences at SIU, help each swimmer meet their individual goals, and strive to ensure our swimming and diving program exceeds its goals."
