Zhang earns Diver of the Week honor

CARBONDALE,Ill.- Southern Illinois diver Kaixuan ‘Sherry’ Zhang picked up her first accolade of the season, after she was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Zhang had a strong opener for the Salukis, winning the one and three-meter contests against the University of Evansville and helping the SIU women to a 136-107 victory over the Purple Aces.

In the one-meter Dive, Zhang scored an impressive 332.55 to best the field. Her score was nearly 25 points higher than the second place finisher. Zhang saw the same success in the three-meter Dive, winning the event with a score of 337.57 for her second win of the season.

The Salukis are back in action Saturday, as the team hosts Missouri State at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. start time.
