Zhang earns fifth MVC Diver of the Week honor

CARBONDALE, Ill. - After a weekend that saw her set two new Ralph Wright Natatorium records, Southern Illinois University diver Kaixuan `Sherry' Zhang was named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Diver of the Week. This is the fifth time this year that Zhang has earned the honor.
Hailing from Hu Bei, China, Zhang was in top form at the Louisville Invite. In one of the best performances of her SIU career, Zhang shattered the record in the three-meter dive on day one. Her final score of 440.15 was more than 100 points higher than the previous record of 337.40 and was a highlight of the first day of action.
The one-meter dive saw Zhang replicate the same type of performance. She bested the field with her final score of 358.30. Her score was 50 points higher than the second-place finisher, and was nearly 30 points higher than the previous record of 329.95.
Zhang has now finished first in every event she has competed in this year and has been one of the best divers in the country.
SIU will have several individuals compete at the USA Swimming National Championships, which takes place Dec. 3-6 in Greensboro, N.C.​
