Women's Tennis Splits with Louisville and Lindsey Wilson

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team split matches with No. 67 Louisville and Lindsey Wilson College Saturday. The Salukis fell to the Cardinals, 6-1 before besting LWC, 5-2.
Gisela Cairo Baza defeated Louisville's Olivia Boeing in a thrilling three-set performance to give the Salukis (12-6, 1-0 MVC) their only point of the match versus UL. G. Cairo Baza came back from a 2-6 deficit to rally for the victory, winning with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 15-13.
Polina Dozortseva and Ariadna Cairo Baza picked up a win in doubles action at the No. 3 slot 8-5, but it wasn't enough as Louisville (10-3) took the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 and 2 slots.
Against Lindsey Wilson, Southern was able to gain momentum after taking the doubles point when Meagan Monaghan and Natasha Tomishima teamed up to win at the No. 1 slot while Anita Lee and Korey Love improved to 8-3 on the season with an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Southern went on to win 4-of-6 singles matches to secure the 5-2 win over the Blue Raiders (3-4). Tomishima won in straight-sets at the top spot, 6-0, 6-0 while Lee surrendered just two-points in her win at the No. 2 slot.
G. Cairo Baza won her second-straight match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 while freshman Monaghan defeated LWC's Alicia Rodriguez 6-2, 6-3.
SIU will have a week to prepare for Northern Iowa and Drake. The matches are the final home matches of the year. Prior to Sunday's match, seniors Anita Lee and Korey Love will be recognized.
