Saluki Swimming and Diving sweeps MVC honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki swimming and diving swept Missouri Valley Conference honors this week, when Bryn Handley and Kaixuan 'Sherry' Zhang were named Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week, respectively. The Salukis have won eight honors this season, with Zhang earning six of them.
Hailing from Louisville, Ky., Handley was one of the top swimmers for the Salukis in their last meet. The freshman won both the 1000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly, while finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle. Handley was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that took second.
Handley's best performance of the day was in the 1000-yard freestyle. Her time of 10:13.80 was nearly 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and it was the fastest time in the MVC.
Zhang continued her unbeaten streak, sweeping the one and three-meter dive. She has swept the two events in every meet she has competed in this season, while setting several facility records this season.
Handley and Zhang will get the chance to add to their win totals, when SIU travels to Fishers, Ind., for the Butler Invite on Sunday.
