CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team will look to even out its record when it travels to Murray State on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CST.
The Racers (2-4) return eight letterwinners, including their second-leading scorer from a year ago, Ke'Shuna James.
"Murray State is a good, quality team and we've got to make sure we're doing all the little things right," said head coach Cindy Stein.
The Salukis defeated the Racers, 78-63 last season, behind a historic performance by redshirt senior Dyana Pierre. Pierre broke a 32-year old school record of field goals without a miss, shooting 14-of-14 from the field for 31 points. She also chipped in 11 rebounds and three blocks in that win.
"We've got to have a lot of kids step up against Murray State," said Stein. "I'm sure (Pierre) will be someone that they will probably trap with two or three players, if not all of them, and we've got to make sure we have other kids stepping up."
Junior Carlie Corrigan, who made her second start of the season and fifth of her career in the loss at Memphis on Sunday, has been playing more minutes as of late, shooting 42% from the field and averaging close to seven points per game.
"Carlie has been very good throughout this non-conference schedule," said Stein. "I see her shooting actually better as we go along. She's been that bright spot, whether someone is trying to take away our three and she's taking it to the basket, she's making really good decisions."
Upcoming Promotions:
The Salukis will host Field Trip Day on Friday, Dec. 4 at noon against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Local schools, from grade schools to high schools, have been invited to attend, free of charge. Small, kid-friendly, events will take place around the concourse leading up to the game, with each student receiving an educational activities packet and a small bag of popcorn.
