Salukis Host 2015 MVC Swimming and Diving Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois hosts the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships this week at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium. The Salukis were picked to finish third, behind Missouri State and Illinois State. Competition starts Wednesday and will finish on Saturday.
Freshman Kelsie Walker heads into the championships holding some of the top times in the MVC. Walker ranks in the top-three in three different events (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 1650-yard freestyle).
Helena Amorim ranks in the top-three in two different events (500-yard freestyle, 1650-yard freestyle) for the Salukis.
Sarah James holds the fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke and the third fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke. Last season, James finished third in the 200-yard backstroke and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Salukis holds the best time in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:26.10.
Diver Kaixuan 'Sherry' Zhang will look to defend her titles in the one and three-meter dive. Zhang has been unstoppable so far this season, sweeping the two events every time she has competed. Her performances have resulted in eight MVC Diver of the Week honors.
