The Southern Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving programs were both named Scholar All-America teams for the fall 2014 semester by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.
The men's program posted a GPA of 3.48 in fall 2014, good for third nationally among Division I swimming and diving programs, trailing only Grand Canyon University and Yale. The women's team posted a 3.49 GPA, good for 22nd nationally. Adding the two together, the team's combined GPA (6.97) was third-highest nationally, trailing only Yale and Grand Canyon.
Forty-six student-athletes in the program posted term GPAs of 3.0 or higher, and the program had 16 individuals get a 4.0 in the semester.
The program has consistently been among the best academic swimming programs in the nation. Both the men's and women's programs were among the top-15 nationally in GPA for the spring 2014 semester, and the combined program held the nation's best GPA in fall 2013.
