I have been concerned about the use of black rather than maroon as a color for Saluki uniforms. What are your thoughts on emphasizing maroon as the major color for the Salukis?
I have had several inquiries on the topic of black versus maroon, and I agree that we need to emphasize maroon as our primary color. We are planning to gradually phase-in these changes so as not to incur additional expense. Uniforms and gear are ordered about a year ahead of time, and our coaches have been encouraged to follow the traditional color scheme for the 2016-17 season. Some basic items in the Under Armor catalog are not manufactured in maroon stock colors, in which case black or white are used as accent colors.
When information on injuries is released, it is usually cryptically and as little as possible. Can this policy be changed?
As a former trainer, I understand the dynamics at work when it comes to publicizing injuries at the college level. The National Football League has established standards when it comes to reporting injuries, but the NCAA has no such guidelines. It's left up to each school to decide. In addition, there are HIPAA laws that protect the privacy of every individual's health information. At Southern, we leave it up to each head coach to determine the extent to which injury information is divulged. Some coaches are more guarded than others. Obviously, the high-profile sports require more communication with the public, and my expectation is that we will not be deceptive in regards to injury status of athletes.
