Estrada reaches 1,000 kills, SIU Downs Drake 3-1

Salukis move into a three-way tie for first place in the MVC with the win.
Southern Illinois outside hitter Andrea Estrada became the 14th Saluki to reach 1,000 career kills to lead SIU to a sweep of Drake (set scores) Friday night at the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Estrada entered the match with 989 career kills and notched her 1,000th of her standout career in the third set. The Bogota, Colombia native is just the fifth Saluki to reach the 1,000-kill plateau as a junior, and finished the night with a match-high 17 kills while hitting .267.
The preseason All-MVC selection also tallied 16 digs in the win over the Bulldogs (12-11, 3-6 MVC), and now has 39 career double-doubles, tied for the fifth-most in school history. She's tied with former Saluki standout Dana Olden, who recorded 39 double-doubles from 1989-92.
Senior setter/hitter Meg Viggars tallied her 10th career triple-double in the victory, as she finished with 10 kills, 35 assists and 12 digs. The Stokes-on-Trent, England native is the first student-athlete from the Missouri Valley Conference this season to record a triple-double, and the 21st in all of NCAA Division I to do so.
The Salukis hit .327 in the win, marking the seventh time this season they've hit .300 or better. SIU had five hitters finish in double figure kills, including Estrada and Viggars. Abby Barrow had 16 kills and hit .306 from the outside, and SIU's middles hit a combined .667. Alex Rosignol put down 11 kills and hit a season-high .786, while Kolby Meeks hit .579 and added 11 kills.
Hannah Kaminsky dished out a season-high 33 assists to go along with 12 digs for her 30th career double-double, the ninth-most in school history. Mariana Pilon tallied a match-high 18 digs, while Ginger Perinar chipped in seven kills and four block assists.
The win is SIU's 10th-straight over Drake, and the Salukis have now swept the season series from the Bulldogs in each of Justin Ingram's five seasons as head coach.With Missouri State's 3-1 win over Wichita State Friday night, the Salukis are now in a three-way tie with the Shockers and the Bears for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Southern will try to sweep the Iowa road trip for the second time in Ingram's tenure tomorrow (Oct. 22) when they take on the Northern Iowa Panthers at 7 p.m. inside the McLeod Center.
