- Southern Illinois hosts South Dakota on Saturday, November 5, at Saluki Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.Â
- South Dakota is SIU's shortest-running MVFC rivalry. The programs have met only twice, with each team winning its home game. SIU won at Saluki Stadium in 2014, and South Dakota won in Vermillion last year.
- The game features two of the top three scoring offenses in the MVFC. Both teams average more than 30 points per game.
- Josh Straughan has 2,429 passing yards through eight games. He's on pace to have the third 3,000-yard season in program history. He would join current head coach Nick Hill (who had 3,175 yards in 2007) and Hill's first protege, Mark Iannotti (who had 3,195 yards last year).Â
- The Salukis forced three turnovers last week and scored on defense. Craig James returned an interception for a touchdown. Safeties Ryan Neal and Jefferson Vea also had picks.Â
- The Salukis have only five seniors slated to start, while nine projected starters are underclassmen.Â
SALUKIS HOST 'YOTES

- The game will be SIU's Military Appreciation Game. All veterans and active duty military can receive free admission to the game by redeeming their ticket at the Military Appreciation Tailgate located on Saluki Row.Â
- Veterans and active duty military members are also invited to that tailgaite for free food and refreshments. Additional tickets for family members can be purchased at half price.Â
- Three military grade humvees will be parked just outside the stadium, compliments of the National Guard.
- The band will perform a pre-game tribute and dedicate their halftime performance to our armed forces.
- The sidewalks will be lined with American flags, and the Carbondale Fire Department will hang a large American flag over the Saluki Walk.

- SIU is among the youngest teams in the nation.Â
- Of the 44 players listed on this week's offensive and defensive 2-deep, only nine are seniors.Â
- Only five of the projected 22 starters are seniors.Â
- SIU has played seven true freshman this year and started five of them. Against Indiana State, the Salukis started three true freshmen on defense (DT Blake Parzych, S Jeremy Chinn and CB James Ceasar).Â
APPROACHING MILESTONES
- Chase Allen recorded his 20th career tackle for loss in SIU's win over Murray State.
- Allen has 295 career tackles, becoming the 18th player in program history to amass at least 275 career tackles.Â
- Chase Allen is five tackles away from 300 in his career. He will become the 14th player in program history with 300 career tackles and first since Brandin Jordan, who had 370 tackles from 2006-09.Â
- Since 2000, only Jordan, Alexis Moreland (2001-04), Bart Scott (1998-2001), and Royal Whitaker (2002-05) have recorded 300 tackles in a career.Â
- Daquan Isom is 83 yards away from 2,000 all-purpose yards in his career. He has 1,917 all-purpose yards in 14 career games.
- Isom is 147 rushing yards away from 1,000 career rushing yards. Isom has 853 yards on just 130 attempts (6.6 yards per carry) in his 14-game SIU career.
- Including his statistics from Stillman College, Josh Straughan surpassed 7,000 career passing yards during the game vs. South Dakota State.Â
- Straughan has 7,838 career passing yards. He's 162 yards away from 8,000.Â
- Straughan ranks seventh among active players (FCS) in career passing yards.
- Billy Reed is one catch away from 100. He will become the 13th player in program history to eclipse 100 career catches.
- Reed cracked the top-20 in SIU career receiving yards in the game vs. Murray State. He surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards in the season opener at Florida Atlantic.
- Jimmy Jones, Daquan Isom, Darrell James and Israel Lamprakes have all surpassed 500 career receiving yards during the 2016 season. In addition to Billy Reed, SIU has five receivers with at least 500 career receiving yards.
- Deondre Barnett has three forced fumbles this season, tied for fourth in SIU single-season history. He can become the first SIU player since 2005 (Lorenzo Wims) to force four fumbles in a single season.
- Cameron Walter surpassed 500 career rushing yards earlier this season at Illinois State.
