CARBONDALE, ILL. – The Southern Illinois University Swimming and Diving program hosts their first home meet tomorrow at Shea Natatorium, against conference rivals Missouri State.
LAST TIME OUT
SIU last got in the pool at the Louisville Invitational. The women's team came in fourth place, behind Louisville (No. 7), Florida International, and Ohio University. The men were able to come in second place, finishing only behind nationally ranked Louisville (No. 4). At the Invitational the Salukis grabbed 25 top-five finishes and broke multiple school records, including a 30-year-old record in the 400-yard medley relay on the women's side.
BEARS IN CARBONDALE
This weekend will be the first time either MSU's men's or women's team has been to Carbondale since the Missouri Valley Championships back in February. The four-day competition ended with the Salukis edging out the Bears by .5 points to win the conference title. The title ended a nine-year drought on the SIU women's side and ended MSU's eight year reign at the top (2008-2015).
LAST MEETING AGAINST THE BEARS
Tomorrow will be the first time the men's team has competed against MSU since the MAC championships. At the championships MSU finished one place in front of SIU, who finished in fourth, 106 points separated the two teams. Each team was able to capture 4 MAC titles during the meet.
On the women's side, a small portion of the Salukis have faced MSU this season already. Back at the beginning of October nine athletes from SIU went to compete in the inaugural Missouri State Invitational. SIU (289 points) finished in fourth place, two spots behind Missouri State (347 points). The Salukis had six total top-three finishes at the Invitational, two of them from Samantha Parsons.
SATURDAY'S MEET
The meet tomorrow is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. inside the student recreation center in Carbondale. Attached at the bottom is a list of both rosters along with the list of events for the meet.
