CARBONDALE, ILL. - Saluki junior, Bryn Handley, earns her third weekly award of the season, the Missouri Valley Conference announced this morning. Handley has now earned swimmer of the week honors for the seventh time in her career at Southern Illinois University, tying her for the most of any swimmer since 2010.
The Louisville native was dominant in the pool this past weekend against Missouri State, going a perfect four for four. Handley's day started off with the 200-yard freestyle, where she posted a time of 1:50.75. She finished four seconds in front of second place finisher and fellow Saluki, Kelsie Walker. Handley waited four events before diving back into the pool for the 100-yard freestyle. Her time of 51.68 missed the Saluki all time record in the event by 1.27 seconds. Handley's third win came in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming to time of 4:54.68. It was the second time this season Handley took first place in the event against MSU. The other time came back in October at the Missouri State Invitational. In her final event of the day, Handley would swim the final leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Her time of 51.39 was the fastest 100-yard time of anyone competing in the race, boosting her team to a three second margin victory.
