Junior Andre Brilhante named MAC Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Following a strong performance in last weekend's home meet, SIU junior Andre Brilhante has been named Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week. This is Brilhante's first Swimmer of the Week recognition this season.
In his final meet before the MAC Championships, Brilhante came away with three first place finishes against Evansville. The junior opened with an impressive 1:39.62 finish in the 200-yard freestyle race, winning by nearly six seconds with the second place finish clocking in at 1:45.25.
His speedy finishes continued in the 100-yard freestyle where Brilhante came in at 45.51 for first place. Both Brilhante's 100- and 200-yard freestyle times his fastest of the season, not counting his mid-season times at Purdue.
Brilhante finished the meet with a 20.26 split as the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay. His split, the fastest of any in that race, helped the Salukis finish in 1:24.99 for first place. In total, Brilhante finished with 29 points for the Salukis, contributing to their 179-62 win over the Purple Aces.
This season, Brilhante holds the Salukis' fastest times in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. He also swam the lead-off leg of the Salukis' 200-, 400- and 800-yard relays and the anchor leg of the 400-yard medley relay that that rank in the national top-100.
