CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eight members of the Saluki men's swimming and diving team were selected as Distinguished Scholar Athletes by the Mid-American Conference on Friday. The Salukis had the most athletes earn the accolade of all men's swimming teams in the conference.
The Distinguished Scholar Athlete is a second-year award given to students who have excelled in athletics and academics. From the Academic All-MAC Teams, each school's faculty athletic representatives selected the ‘best of the best' to be honored with Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award.
Cody Bailey was one of only three men's swimmers to earn the accolade that registered a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Andre Brilhante, Joao Facciotti, Shane Phillips, Andres Saavedra and Michael Wolfe were each named Distinguished Scholar Athletes as well. This year marks the second year that both Till Pallmann and Bobby Wood were named Distinguished Scholar Athletes as well.
This is the third time the Saluki men's swimming and diving team has been recognized for its academic success this season alone. The team earned CSCAA Scholar All-American honors with the 19th-highest GPA of the 84 programs that earned the recognition. Later, 12 members of the team were named to the Academic All-MAC team.
