CARBONDALE, Ill. - This is the latest installment of our monthly feature called, "Ask the AD." If you have questions for Saluki Director of Athletics Tommy Bell, feel free to submit them by e-mail.
Should Wichita State leave the MVC, what schools do you think the MVC will be looking at adding? Would we look at the Dakotas, or a more traditional basketball school such as New Mexico State, Valparaiso or Murray State?
First, I hope that Wichita State doesn't leave, as the Shockers have been a flagship member of our conference since 1945. Their success in men's basketball has helped sustain the league in recent years, especially after the departure of Creighton. As far as future membership goes, I don't want to speculate about specific institutions, but I think having a strong basketball program would definitely be a prerequisite, in the event there is an opening.
Where is Brown Dawg?
Brown Dawg is the puppy in the family and makes less frequent appearances than Grey Dawg. Brown Dawg was recently spotted at the St. Patrick's Day parade in Chicago, and has made occasional appearances at Saluki games and in the community during the past year. There's a good chance you'll see more of Brown Dawg in the near future.
I very much enjoyed watching games on ESPN3, but when I tried listen to the radio broadcast simultaneously, it was always at least 30 seconds ahead. Can anything be done to sync up the broadcasts so we can hear Mike Reis while watching?
Unfortunately, there is no way to sync up the broadcasts. ESPN3 is delivered via the internet, and since no two connection speeds are the same, there is a wide range of time lapse. We were very pleased with the response to the ESPN3 broadcasts and are already looking ahead to next year for ways we can improve the product. Thanks for watching.
In your 10-point plan you mentioned having coaches produce a blueprint for winning conference championships. How close do you feel we are in various sports, especially Men's Basketball?
We're already winning or contending for conference championships in sports such as Volleyball, Swimming & Diving, Track & Field and Softball. Regarding Men's Basketball, with seven of our top eight players back, including five seniors, I fully expect to contend for the MVC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017.
Would it be possible to webcast the spring football game? I think it would be especially great this year so we can see what the new staff is doing. Even just one camera from the press box would be greatly appreciated.
I checked with our video coordinator Shane Gibbons regarding your suggestion. Although all of his streaming equipment is set up at Itchy Jones Stadium, he believes it's possible to do a one-camera stream of the Spring Game from the stadium. Keep an eye out for a Youtube link to the stream on our website in the near future.
