EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Southern Illinois University men's and women's swimming and diving programs start their season this weekend in Evansville, Indiana to face off with the Purple Aces. Both teams are returning many key pieces from a season ago including seven Missouri Valley All-Conference and seven Honorable Mention selections for the women, and three Mid-American All-MAC first team selections and one second team selection for the men.
The women's team will be the reigning MVC champions this season, with hopes to repeat. They were selected as the pre-season No. 1 in the coaches poll released yesterday. The men's squad will look to move their way up after finishing fourth in MAC last season, losing to Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, and Missouri State at the championships.
The Salukis have had luck against Evansville in the past, securing wins in 28 straight meets for the men and 17 out of the last 18 for the women. The last time these two faced off was senior day at Shea Natatorium in February. The men won 179-62, while the women beat the Aces 191-46. The Salukis nearly went undefeated, winning all but three events.
The diving portion of the meet will start at 4 p.m. on Friday, and the swimming portion will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
