Saluki Notes
• It has been nearly 15 years since SIU has won a match in which it needed to overcome a first set loss of 12 points or more, and marks just the sixth time in school history that SIU has rallied from a 10-point or more loss in set one to win the match. The 12-point first set loss is the second largest margin of defeat in a first set of a Saluki victory dating back to 1975. The only other occurrence came in SIU's Nov. 23, 2002 win over Illinois State in the opening round of the MVC Tournament, in which Southern lost the first set 15-30, but rallied to win the next three, 31-19, 30-26 and 30-24 to take the match and advance. The win over Missouri State marks the first Saluki victory in the 25-point set era in which SIU suffered such a lopsided defeat in set one but rallied to win the match.
• Number of times SIU has won matches after losing the first set by 10 or more points.

• Abby Barrow and Andrea Estrada each had 20 kills in SIU's win over Missouri State on Sept. 26. It marked only the fifth time since 2000 that two Salukis recorded 20-plus kills in the same match, and the first time since 2012. On Oct. 12, 2012, Laura Thole and Alysia Mayes put down 22 and 20 kills, respectively, in SIU's 3-2 win at Bradley, and on Oct. 22, 2010, Jennifer Berwanger tallied 29 kills and Jessica Whitehead added 28 kills in SIU's four-set win over Evansville. Prior to the change to 25-point sets from 30-point sets in 2008, there were two instances of two Salukis notching 20-plus kills. On Aug. 31, 2002, Lindsey Schultz and Kristie Kemner put down 20 kills apiece in SIU's four set win over Southwest Texas St., and later that season on Nov. 23, Tara Cains tallied 27 and Kristie Kemner totaled 23 kills in Southern's five-set win over Missouri State in the MVC Tournament.
• The Salukis are off to their best Valley start since 1995. The 1995 Salukis won their first six MVC matches.Â
• In the win over Northern Iowa, head coach Justin Ingram won his 150th career match, and 90th while at SIU. He became the fourth head coach in Saluki history to reach the 90-win plateau, and is the quickest in the NCAA-era to reach the mark. Ingram needed just 142 matches to reach the mark, besting the 157 matches it took Debbie Hunter (1975-88) to do so.
• SIU tallied 13.0 total blocks in the 3-2 win over Missouri State on Sept. 26, including a double block on match point to seal the road victory. It marked the eighth time this season the Salukis have recorded 10-plus total blocks as a team. SIU currently leads the Valley in blocks per set (2.53) and is 11th in the nation in total blocks (162.0).
• SIU concluded the non-conference portion of its 2016 schedule with a 9-5 (.642) record, matching their non-conference win total from a year ago. It also marks the second-straight season, and the ninth time in the past 11 seasons, the Salukis have posted a winning record during non-conference play. SIU is 38-23 (.623) in non-conference play since head coach Justin Ingram took over in 2012.
• The Salukis have had 21 triple-doubles in school history dating back to 1982, of which Meg Viggars accounts for more than one-third of them (9). Her 11 kills, 16 digs and 38 assists against SEMO on Sept. 21, 2014 was the first triple-double by a Saluki since Holly Marita tallied 10 kills, 12 digs and 51 assists against Iowa on Aug. 30, 2003. Of the 10 times that a Saluki has finished in double-figures in kills, digs and assists, nine of them have come from Viggars. When Viggars recorded her sixth career triple-double at Butler on Sept. 19, 2015, she passed Dana Olden for most triple-doubles by a Saluki. Olden tallied five matches in which she reached double figures in kills, digs and blocks from 1989-92.
• The Salukis currently have three players hovering around the top-10 in school history for career double-doubles. Meg Viggars has recorded 53 career double-doubles, tied for the third-most in school history. She needs nine more this season to pass Kristie Kemner for most all-time. Andrea Estrada, who has 37 career double-doubles, ranks sixth and needs just three more to crack the top-five all-time. Hannah Kaminsky, who has recorded 28 assists-digs double-doubles, is tied for ninth all-time, needing just one more this season to move into sole posession of ninth on SIU's all-time list.
The Opponents
• Bradley (5-8, 0-2 MVC) has lost four-straight coming into Friday, opening MVC play with losses to Indiana State and Illinois State. First-year head coach Carol Price-Torok's squad is led by Erica Haslag, who is averaging 3.96 kills and 2.80 digs per set. Haslag is joined by middle Kelsey Cave, who's hitting .378 and averaging .82 blocks per set. As for the series, the Braves and the Salukis will meet for the 61st time since 1975, with SIU leading the all-time series, 42-18 including a 19-9 record at Bradley. Southern has won five-straight over Bradley, and are 7-2 against the Braves under head coach Justin Ingram.
• Loyola (6-9, 1-1 MVC) has won two of their last three, including a five-set win at Indiana State on Sept. 24. The Ramblers have a pair of hitters averaging three or more kills per set in Morgan Reardon (3.37 kills per set) and Gabi Maciagowski (3.0 per set). SIU leads the all-time series, 7-3, and are 4-2 against Loyola since it joined the Valley prior to the 2013 season.
Player Notes
• Andrea Estrada came close to becoming the 22nd Saluki to record 20 kills-20 digs in the same match, as she tallied 19 kills and 17 digs in SIU's five-set win over UCF on Sept. 2. The last 20-20 match came nearly eight years ago, when Jen Berwanger recorded 23 kills and 24 digs in Southern's five-set loss at Missouri State on Nov. 8, 2008.
• Estrada's .571 hitting efficiency in the win over SEMO was the second-highest in a single-match in her Saluki career, and is the ninth-best in the Valley amongst hitters with 12 or more kills in a match this season.
• Estrada has 940 career kills coming into Friday's match- ranking her 88th among active D1 athletes.Â
• Estrada has twice recorded streaks of five-straight matches in which she has tallied kill-dig double-doubles, both of which came in 2015.
• Estrada tallied multiple service aces in back-to-back matches, having served three aces against the Bulldogs on Sept. 24, and following with a pair of aces in the win over Missouri State. It marks just the second time in her career she's done so in back-to-back matches, and the Bogota, Colombia native is well on her way to her most aces in a season. She currently has 17 through 17 matches, with her previous high being 20.
• Meg Viggars became the 11th Saluki to join the 1,000-dig club with her four digs in the win over SEMO on Sept. 13, and the first since Alex Rivera did so in 2014. She joins Debbie Barr as the only Salukis with 1,000 career assists/1,000 career digs, and currently sits in 11th on SIU's all-time list for career assists with 1,925. Viggars has also tallied 338 block assists, the third-most in school history.
• Viggars' nine career triple-doubles are the second-most of any active NCAA athlete. Only Western Carolina's Jo-Leigh VerVelde has more, as she has 10 in her career.
• Viggars tied a season-best with 10 kills in the win over Drake on Sept. 24. It's the third time this season she has put down 10-plus kills.
• Shannon Hagen set personal-bests in hitting efficiency (.667), kills (13), and total blocks (3.0) in SIU's win over Murray State on Sept. 6. Her .667 hitting efficiency is the third-best in the conference this season.
• Alex Rosignol leads the Missouri Valley Conference with a 1.21 blocks per set average and ranks 16th in the nation in total blocks (76). She finished with seven block assists in SIU's win at Missouri State on Sept. 26. It's the seventh time this season the Mount Carmel, Ill., native has helped block five or more attempts in a match.
• Breanna Cullen made her collegiate debut in the loss to Western Kentucky on Sept. 9, recording four digs and an assist in two sets.Â
• Mariana Pilon has notched double-digit digs in 13 matches this season, including a current streak of four-straight matches doing so. Her longest such streak is 11 matches, which she set last season from Sept. 18, 2015 to Oct. 17, 2015.
• Pilon collected 24 digs in SIU's five set win over Northern Iowa on Sept. 23, a season-best. It marks the seventh time in her two seasons at Southern that Pilon has surpassed the 20-dig mark.
• Nellie Fredriksson set a new career-best with a .571 hitting efficency in SIU's sweep of SEMO on Sept. 13, after tying her career-high for kills (14) and attempts (33) against Northern Arizona on Sept. 3.Â
• Fredriksson finished with 13 kills on 32 swings in SIU's win over Northern Iowa, marking the 11th time of her career she's notched 10-or more kills in a match.
• McKenzie Dorris is leading the Salukis with a 1.36 blocks per set average, and has recorded at least two block assists in all nine matches she's played in this season.
• Abby Barrow put down 20-plus kills in two SIU's last three matches, effectively tripling the amount of times that she has recorded 20-plus kills in a match in her career. Coming into the season, Barrow had only once accomplished the feat, putting down 21 in SIU's win over Loyola last season.Â
• Barrow hit .333 in SIU's loss to Western Kentucky, finishing with 6 kills on 18 attempts with no errors. It marked the first time in the Metamora, Ill., product's career that she did not record a hitting error.Â
• Kolby Meeks has notched five or more block assists in back-to-back matches, and three of SIU's last four. She's done so a total of five times this season, with a season-high seven against Youngstown State on Sept. 16.
• Ginger Perinar recorded a career-high 10 kills in SIU's four-set win over Drake, made all the more impressive given the fact she entered the match in the third set. The Channahon, Ill., native put down her first three swings in the third frame and followed with six kills on 14 swings in set four, including four-straight kills to open the set.
• Ashley Edelen set a new career-high with 16 digs in the four-set win over Drake on Sept. 24. She now has 116 total digs through 17 matches, or nine more digs than she had all of last season.
• Hannah Kaminsky needs just 44 more assists to reach 3,000 for her career. She would become the fifth Salukis to reach 3,000 assists and the first to do so since Rachael Brown joined the club in 2012.
