Southern Illinois sophomore cross country runner Josh Maier recorded his third-straight top-10 finish of the season on Friday, finishing sixth at the Notre Dame Invitational in the men's 8K Gold Race in South Bend, Ind.
The Saluki men's and women's teams both placed 21st in their respective 8K and 5K races. The 61st edition of the annual meet matched Southern against five other Missouri Valley Conference schools, and and various other teams from around the country.
Maier fell a half-second short of cracking the top-five with a time of 24:41.3. Junior Jonathan Vara finished 23rd overall to place second among the Saluki men, while Natalia Hajduk led the women's team, finishing 70th overall at 18:17.8. Redshirt junior Megan Krolak ran unattached in the women's open 5K race, placing 4th overall with a time of 17:37.6.
The Salukis will return to action on Oct. 14 when they compete at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill.
