NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its most recent computer rankings Monday with the Southern Illinois University men's track & field team cracking the top-25 for the first time this season.
Â
The Saluki men are currently ranked 23rd in the nation, as they moved up 26 spots to No. 23 after Jared Kern's mammoth heave of 65'-5.50" (19.95m) landed him second in the shot put rankings. Not only is he second in the NCAA, but it's the third-longest throw in the United States
Â
The team has four top-20 performances, including two top-5 rankings. In addition to Kern, Kyle Landon sits at No. 4 after he cleared 7'-3" (2.21m) at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 20.
Â
Joining Landon and Kern in the top-20 are sophomore Warren Hazel and senior Isaac Ingram. Hazel, who won the 400m title as a freshman at last year's MVC Outdoor Championships, set PRs in both the 200m and the 400m at the Indiana Relays this past weekend. His winning time of 46.85 in the 400m is the 11th-best time in the NCAA this season.
Â
Ingram, a Harrisburg, Ill. product, continues to keep pace with the field in the weight throw, once again upping his personal-best at the Indiana Relays. His throw of 67'-5.50" (20.56m) is tops in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 20th-best in the nation.
Â
It marks the second-straight season that the Saluki men have cracked the indoor Top-25 under Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Kathleen Raske.
The Saluki men's and women's squads return to action Feb. 3-4 when they host the Don DeNoon Invitational at the SIU Recreation Center.
