Carbondale, Ill. - The Missouri Valley Conference announced the swimmer and diver of the week this morning. Bryn Handley was selected as the swimmer of the week, the fourth time she's earned the honor this season.
This past weekend Handley won four events for Southern Illinois University in their match against Indiana State. The Louisville native started off her day with the 1,000-yard freestyle. Handley finished with a time of 10:06.32 to claim the top spot by nearly 30 seconds, and was only four seconds off beating her best time in the event this season. Her win puts her at perfect 3-0 in events over 1,000-yards in 2017. After the 1,000-yard Handley showed her versatility and represented SIU in the 50-yard freestyle. She yet again had the best time in the field, posting the only time in the field under 25 seconds (24.75). Handley rested three events before she got back on the starting blocks for her final individual event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle. Handley recorded a time just over five minutes at 5:00.67 and beat the second place finisher by eight seconds. The junior wrapped up her day by helping win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.70). Handley's four wins against Indiana State brings her total win count in 2017 to eight, making her undefeated in the new year.Â
