Salukis sweep MVC weekly awards

For the first time in the 2017-18 season, the women's swimming and diving team swept the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors. Senior Bryn Handley earned Swimmer of the Week for the first time this season and Baobao Ji was named the Diver of the Week for the second time of the season. Both athletes helped the women's team to wins against Illinois and Illinois State.

For Handley, she won the 200, 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 200, she swam the race in 1:52.11. In the 500, she set a new fastest time in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 65th fastest time in the NCAA by swimming the race in 4:54.86. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, she swam the race in 10:13.24. Handley has won all seven races that she has competed in as an individual this season. Handley also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay, helping her team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:37.65. This is the first time of the season she has earned the award and the seventh of her career.

For Ji, she continued the successful season that she and the rest of Southern's divers have had with a win in the one-meter dive and second-place finish in the three-meter dive. Her score of 293.25 in the one-meter not only earned her a victory, but also a new personal best by more than 12 points. It is the second-best score in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and 41st best in the NCAA. She placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 293.35. This is the second time of the season that Ji has earned the award and the third time a Saluki diver has been named Diver of the Week. Her twin sister, Beibei Ji, won on October 10.
