26 Salukis advanced to the final round
The Salukis improved on day two of the Purdue Invite with 26 student athletes reaching the Friday night's finals.

Three swimmers placed inside the top-20 overall in their events. Senior Joao Facciotti was 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.15. His preliminary time of 48.89 was the fastest for Southern this season. Junior Alex Netzel was 30th in the same race.

In the women's 100-yard butterfly, junior Emma Brazeau and sophomore Rita Naude placed 15th and 16th respectively. Freshman Abbie Young and junior Audrey Snyder were 27th and 28th in the event.

In the women's 200-yard freestyle, senior Bryn Handley set a new MVC best time for the second-straight day with a time of 1:49.99.

In the women's 400-yard IM, Laura Carver was 16th with a time of 4:27.63. Her prelim time of 4:24.65 was the best for Southern this season by more than five seconds. Five Salukis swam in the finals of the 400 IM, the most in any event for Southern today. Sophomores Payton Parman and Samantha Parsons were 20th and 21st. Sophomore Juliana Carvalho and freshman Brittany Scott were 30th and 31st.

On the men's side of the 400 IM, freshmen Sam Drew and Kyle Berquist both advanced to the finals. Drew placed 27th and Berquist was 32nd.

In the women's 200-yard breaststroke, sophomore Samantha Parsons finished 24th and Junior Abby Kresal was 27th and Carver was 30th.

In the women's 100-yard backstroke, Naude was 24th while Carvalho and Brazeau were 31st and 32nd. On the men's side of the same event, Alex Crawford swam the race with a time of 50.26 and finished 22nd Facciotti was 30th.

In diving, both of the Ji twins advanced to the one-meter diving finals. Beibei Ji finished ninth and Baobao Ji was 11th.

The Purdue Invite concludes tomorrow with the final round of the event. The preliminary round begins at 9 a.m.
