This is the second-straight week she's earned the award
For the second-straight week, senior swimmer Bryn Handley has been named the Missouri Valley Conference swimmer of the week. Handley earned the honor for her team-leading performances against nationally-ranked programs, Kentucky and Missouri on Friday and Saturday.
Â
She recorded top-three finishes in all of her individual events. Her best race was in the 1,000-yard freestyle in which she took first with a time of 10:01.77 to improve upon her best time in the Missouri Valley Conference. It is the 42nd-best time in the NCAA this season. Handley defeated Kentucky's Geena Freriks and Kathryn Painter, both are two-time NCAA qualifiers, in the event.
Â
Handley took third in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races. Handley's time of 4:52.72 in the 500-yard freestyle is currently the best in the MVC and 53rd best in the NCAA. In both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, Handley outperformed Missouri's Kira Zubar and Courtney Evensen, two swimmers that have earned Honorable-Mention NCAA All-American honors in their career.
Â
Handley also helped her 400-yard freestyle relay team to a fifth place result.
Â
This is the second time this year the Handley has earned the award and the eighth of her highly successful career.
Â
Handley and the rest of the Salukis will be back in action on November 16 when the team travels to West Lafayette, Indiana for the Purdue Invite in which the Salukis will faces teams from the ACC, Big Ten, SEC and MVC.
