Shayna Gore has scored in double figures in five of Marshall's six games this season, including 22 points in each of the Thundering Herds' first two contests. Ashieka Alexander has reached double figures in three-straight contests, including 11 points and four boards in the win over Winthrop. The Salukis are 8-21 all-time against Conference USA foes, including a 66-53 loss to Louisiana Tech in the Sweet 16 of the 1987 NCAA Tournament. Southern holds a 5-16 record on the road against current C-USA members. The Salukis last win over a Conference USA member came at the SIU Arena on Dec. 15, 1996, a 91-72 win over Middle Tennessee State.
Top-20 nationally among freshmen
Abby Brockmeyer and Makenzie Silvey rank in the top-20 nationally among freshmen in several statistical categories.
Brockmeyer ranks fourth nationally among freshmen in field goal percentage (57.8%), 10th nationally among freshmen in rebounds per game (8.2) and is 11th in the nation among first-years in blocks per game (1.8). She leads all Valley freshmen in all three categories. Makenzie Silvey ranks 11th nationally among freshmen in three-point field goal percentage (42.9%) and is tied for 16th nationally among freshmen in three-pointers made per game (2.4). She leads all MVC freshmen in both categories.
10-plus points per game by a freshmen
Silvey scored 14 points against Morehead State on Nov. 30, which marked the fifth time in her first six games that she has scored in double figures.
Staying on the floor
Kylie Giebelhausen leads the MVC and ranks eighth nationally in minutes played per game (38.8/game). The Preseason All-MVC selection set a career-high by playing 44 minutes in SIU's overtime win over SEMO on Nov. 22, and currently ranks seventh in program history with 3,227 minutes played. If she plays 32 minutes against Marshall, she will pass Molly McDowell (1999-2003) for sixth on SIU's all-time list.
200 career three-pointers
Kylie Giebelhausen made her 200th career three-pointer against Morehead State, which makes her the third player in program history to make 200-plus three-pointers. She is just the third Saluki to make 200-plus three-pointers, joining Teri Oliver (2009-12; 235) and Rishonda Napier (2012-17; 277) as the only in program history to have accomplished the feat. Giebelhausen's 204 career three-pointers are the most of any player in the Missouri Valley Conference and are the 24th-most among active DI players.
Switching off
Kristen Nelson scored a career-high 14 points against Morehead State on Nov. 30 and did so with only one miss. The Farmington, Mich. native was 3-of-4 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from three-point range and made all six of her attempts from the charity stripe. Her six free throws were also a career-best. Brittney Patrick tied her career-highs in both rebounds (5) and assists (5) against Morehead State.
Season-high for rebounds
SIU snagged a season-high 41 rebounds, which was its most since recording 41 rebounds at Wichita State on Feb. 12, 2017. Southern's 16 offensive rebounds were its most since the Salukis recorded 18 offensive rebounds at Indiana State on Feb. 28, 2016. Nicole Martin led the way with 12 rebounds, which tied her career-high and her six offensive boards were a new career-best. It also marked the second time in her career that the Jefferson City, Mo. native has grabbed double-digit rebounds.
On fire from three
The Salukis set season-bests in three-point FG percentage and three-pointers made against Morehead State, as SIU made 52.2% (12-of-23) of its three-pointers. It's the second time this season that Southern has made at least half of its attempts and the best it has shot from downtown since making 70.6% (12-of-17) of its attempts at Indiana State on March 2, 2017.
More from three
Kylie Giebelhausen made 6-of-10 from three-point range against Morehead State, which marked the 33rd time a Saluki has made six or more three-pointers in a game. Giebelhausen is tied with five others for the school record for three-pointers in a game, as she sank seven in a win over Wichita State on Jan. 13, 2017.
First career steal
Rachel Pudlowski was a spark off the bench for the Salukis against the Morehead State Eagles, as she scored four points and recorded a pair of steals in six minutes. Her two steals were the first of her career.
One shy of 100
Kylie Giebelhausen is one steal shy of 100 for her career. While she will be the 29th Saluki to record triple-digit steals, she will be the first in program history with at least 1,000 points, 100 blocks and 100 steals.
