Sophomore Tyjuana Eason shattered a nine year-old school record as the Southern Illinois indoor track & field team completed day one of the Music City Challenge Friday.
The Kankakee, Ill. native recorded an indoor personal-best time of 24.57 in the 200-meter dash, topping the previous school record of 24.62, set by Andrea Norris in 2008. She finished eighth in the event Friday.
Kyle Landon cleared 7'-2.25" on his first attempt to finish second in the high jump. The Chester, Ill. native joined the competition with the bar set at 6'-9.50" (2.07m) and made easy work of it, soaring over on his first try. After passing on 6'-10.75" (2.10m), the four-time All-American notched his second-straight first attempt clearance at 6'-11.75" (2.13m). Landon and Georgia's Keenon Laine were the only two competitors to clear that height, and their focus shifted to 7'-1" (2.16m). Laine passed, while Landon cleared it on his second try. Both competitors cleared the next bar, 7'-2.25" (2.19m), on their first attempts, but it was Laine who cleared 7'-3.25" (2.22m) on his second attempt to win the event.
Isaac Ingram notched his fourth-straight toss of 65' or better in the weight throw. The Harrisburg, Ill. product recorded a mark of 65'-11.50" (20.10m) on his fifth attempt to place fifth.
Freya Block just missed advancing to the finals in the women's weight throw, as she finished 10th. The senior from Naponset, Ill. threw 62'-5.25" (19.03m) on her third attempt, and missed moving on by less than six inches.
Over at the pole vault pit, Chad Weaver cleared 16'-6.75" (5.05m) to tie for fifth. It's the best clearance indoors for Weaver since Feb. 28, 2015 at the MVC Indoor Championships. Nathan Schuck cleared 16'-6.75" (4.90m) to place eighth.
In the triple jump, Kezia Martin set a huge indoor PR with a mark of 40'-4.75" (12.31m). While she finished 10th in a stacked field Friday, the Jefferson City, Mo. native is now seventh on SIU's all-time list.
A pair of Saluki alums posted top-5 finishes in the triple jump, including a win by Luke James. James leaped 51'-10.50" (15.81m) on his second jump to win while Malaikah Love placed fourth with a mark of 43'-1.75" (13.15m).
The Salukis will kick off day two of the Music City Challenge beginning tomorrow at 10 a.m.
