Day one of the MAC Championships

CARBONDALE, ILL. - After day one of the Mid-American Conference swimming and diving championships the Salukis are tied for third place. Southern Illinois University came in second for the 200-yard Medley Relay and fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The first race of the evening was the 200-yard medley relay. Alex Crawford, Bobby Wood, Joao Facciotti, and Andre Brilhante recorded a time of 1:27.51, which was less than a second behind the first place finisher, University at Buffalo. The Salukis time beat the school record, set in 2015, by nearly two whole seconds. Facciotti was a member of the record setting foursome two years ago. Their second place finish gave 34 points, putting the Dawgs in second overall. Â
The next and final race of the evening was the 800-yard freestyle. SIU's foursome consisted of Reilly Garman, Kevin Kluge, Michael Wolfe, and Filippo Dell'Olio. The Dawgs finished in fifth place, five second behind the winner, Eastern Michigan University.Â
SIU is currently in a tie with last year's champions, Eastern Michigan, with 62 points. Both teams trail by only ten behind Missouri State and Buffalo, who are tied for first at 72.
