Day two of the MAC Championships

CARBONDALE, ILL. - The men's swimming and diving team sits in fifth place after day two of the Mid-American Conference Championships. Southern Illinois trails the leader, Missouri State, by 70 points.Â
Day two of the MAC Championships started off with the 500-yard freestyle. Michael Wolfe grabbed an eighth place finish for SIU, followed by a tenth place finish by Nolan Fahey, 12th by Kevin Kluge, and 15th place finish by Reilly Garman. The four Salukis added 25 points to SIU's overall score.
Right after the 500-yard freestyle was the 200-yard IM. Filippo Dell'Olio was the lone competitor in the event for SIU and he left his mark. The senior picked up a bronze medal, recording a time of 1:47.05. Dell'Olio not only grabbed a top spot on the podium, but also in the SIU record books. His time broke the year old record, that he set in the 200-yard IM last season by .39 seconds.
Following Dell'Olio's record breaking performance was the 50-yard freestyle. Andre Brilhante and Bobby Wood both competed in the 'A' final, and both finished inside the top five. Brilhante won the silver medal, the best finish of the day, and Wood finished in fifth place, missing third place by .18 seconds.
Next on the docket was one-meter diving. Kai Hoffmann-Dussome finished in eighth place overall, recording a score of 264.90. Kai was the only freshman to make the 'A' final.Â
The final event of Day two was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Southern entered the event as the reigning champions. Brilhante, Joao Facciotti, Matt Ciezczak, and Wood finished in fourth place, being out touched by .06 by Missouri State who finished third. The fourth place finish added 30 more points to SIU's score, putting them at 178 at the end of day two.
The 'MACtion' starts back up tomorrow at 11 a.m. with prelims for the 400-yard IM, 100-yard Butterly, 200-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Backstroke, and 3-Meter diving. Doors will open at 10 a.m. for the general public.
