The Southern Illinois men's golf team finished in 13th place at 33-over par after the final round of competition on Tuesday at the Gary Koch Invitational in Gastonia, North Carolina.

No. 20-ranked Auburn claimed the tournament title, finishing 18-under par and eight strokes ahead of North Carolina State, which shot 10-under. The Salukis entered today's final round in 10th place and just one stroke behind nationally Kentucky, but SIU shot a 306 team score, while Kentucky vaulted to seventh on the team leaderboard with a 281.

The Salukis had a golfer shoot below par in each of the first two rounds with Peyton Wilhoit and Frankie Thomas both carding 71s, but today that was not the case, as the team's best score was a 75 by freshman Sam Meek.

Thomas maintained his position as the team's top finisher at 7-over par to tie for 44th place, marking the first time the freshman has been the team's low scorer. Wilhoit was a stroke behind him at 8-over par. He was among the most consistent golfers in the field, finishing second in total pars with 39.

The final round the 7,042-yard Gaston Country Club takes place tomorrow.
