Nikki Freeman finishes 12th in the discus at USATF Junior Outdoor Championships

Saluki freshman Nikki Freeman finished 12th in the discus Thursday afternoon on day one of the 2017 USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Freeman's best toss of the day came on her second attempt, as she threw 151'-1" (46.07m). Iowa freshman Laulauga Tausaga-Collins, who most recently finished seventh in the discus at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, won the event with a mark of 177'-3" (54.04m). Princeton signee Pamela Amaechi took second at 174'-2" (53.10m).Â
The USATF Junior Championships are limited to student-athletes who are under 20 years of age as of 2018. First and second place finishers in each event advance to July's Pan American Junior Championships, to be held in Lima, Peru.
Freeman will have another chance to advance tomorrow, June 23, as she is slated to compete in the hammer throw at 8:30 p.m. CST. Live results are available here.
