Salukis wrap up competition at 2017 USATF Outdoor Championships

Berry, Price earn spots on Team USA for 2017 IAAF World Championships
Saluki alums Gwen Berry and DeAnna Price earned spots on Team USA for August's International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London, England with their finishes in the women's hammer throw Sunday.
A three-time indoor national champion, Berry won her first outdoor national title with a toss of 245'-3" (74.77m). Her winning throw came on her second attempt. Price's best mark also came on her second attempt at 243'-0" (74.06m). The two-time NCAA Champion was in second place until final attempts, when 2017 NCAA Champion Maggie Ewan of Arizona State threw 244'-7" (74.56m) to bump Price to third.
Jeneva Stevens, who finished ninth in the shot put Saturday night, took eighth in the hammer Sunday. Freya Block threw 201'-5" (61.41m) on her third attempt to finish 15th and cap off an impressive senior campaign for the Neponset, Ill. native, who earned her first career All-America honor after she finished seventh at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships.Â
Over at the shot put, Saluki alum Josh Freeman threw 66'-11" (20.41m) on his fifth attempt to place sixth. Soon-to-be senior Jared Kern was unable to record a legal mark in his first appearance at the USATF Outdoor Championships and finished 18th.
Recent graduate Kyle Landon took seventh in the high jump at his final meet as a Saluki. The Chester, Ill. native cleared a season-best 7'-3" (2.21m), the best clearance among jumpers representing a college/university at the meet.
In addition, SIU Hall of Famer Bianca Stuart won the long jump at the Bahamas National Championships to advance to August's IAAF World Championships. She won with a jump of 20'-1" (6.12m).
The 2017 IAAF World Championships begin on Saturday, August 5 and run until Sunday, August 13.Â
