Off to a fast start

Getting it done against her hometown team
With SIU's 63-62 win over Bradley on Jan. 12, the Salukis improved to 8-1 against the Braves under the direction of fifth-year head coach Cindy Stein. Stein, a Peoria, Ill. native, moved to 14-1 all-time in her coaching career against the Braves. Stein's next win will mark the 350th of her coaching career.

Abby Brockmeyer recorded her fourth career double-double in the win at Bradley on Jan. 12 with 12 points and 13 rebounds. It is tied for the third-most double-doubles by a freshman in school history, as Alexus Patterson and Bridgett Bonds each tallied four during their respective freshman seasons.

Brittney Patrick recorded a career-high eight assists and had just one turnover in the 63-62 win at Bradley on Jan. 12, which marked the best assist-to-turnover ratio by a Saluki in more than a year. Tied a School Record
SIU recorded a season-high 11 blocks in the 64-45 win over Indiana State on Dec. 31, with six different Salukis tallying at least one block. SIU's 11 blocked shots tied the school record for most blocks in a game, set just over 18 years ago on Dec. 29, 1999 at Indiana State when Southern also recorded 11 blocks. It's the most blocked shots by a Valley team this season, and marks just the fourth time in program history that SIU has turned aside 10-plus shots, all of which have come during league play.
