Select Salukis set to compete at EIU Friday Night Special
02/15/2018 | 6:06:00 | Track and Field
Southern will send a handful of athletes to Charleston, Ill. for EIU's last chance meet.
While many will have the week off to rest before the 2018 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, select Salukis will travel up I-57 to take part in Eastern Illinois' Friday Night Special on Feb. 16.
Southern tallied 30 personal-bests, including seven top-10 school marks, at last weekend's Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University. Ricky Hurley accounted for two of each, as he notched lifetime-bests in both the weight throw and the shot put to crack SIU's top-10 in both events.
"We had a good meet last weekend and we took some steps forward," third-year Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Kathleen Raske said. "We still didn't execute across the board and are still working out some kinks as far as how to compete better. We emphasize the need to compete at your best when it matters the most. By and large, we took a big step forward last weekend. There are a few athletes who need to fine tune and have another trial run this weekend in Charleston."
The Salukis will be joined at the last chance meet by student-athletes from MVC foes Bradley, Evansville and Indiana State as well as athletes from SIUE, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lincoln College, McKendree, and Millikin.
Friday night's meet will mark the regular season finale for the Salukis during the 2017-18 indoor season.Â
