Handley and Ji Sweep MVC Weekly Awards Again

For the second-straight week, Senior Bryn Handley and sophomore Beibei Ji swpet the Missouri Valley Conference's Swimming and Diving weekly awards.

The honors came after a dominant performance over Evansville on the team's senior day meet. Handley and Ji led the Salukis to a 166-72 victory over the Purple Aces with just two weeks to go until the Conference meet. This is the third time the Salukis have swept the awards this year. The Salukis also did so on Oct. 31 as well as last week.

Handley earned two wins in a dominant showing by her team against Evansville on Saturday in her final home meet of her career. Handley won the 500-yard freestyle for the sixth time this season with a time of 4:58.44. She was more than nine-seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.95. She was part of a relay team that took first in the 100-yard freestyle relay with a time of 47.08. Her team was more than a second faster than the second-place team from Evansville.

Ji out performed her teammates and Evansville's Courtney Coverdale, the defending MVC Diver of the Year, in the three-meter dive during her team's victory on senior day against the Purple Aces. Beibei Ji took first in the three-meter with a score of 292.26. She had more than a 15-point cushion over Baobao Ji who finished second. In the one-meter dive, Beibei was second with a score of 276.15. She was less than five points behind her twin sister, Baobao Ji, in the event.

In total, the Saluki women have earned MVC weekly honors 12 times this season, eight more than Missouri State, who has the fourth most in the conference. Between the men's and women's teams, The Salukis have earned MVC and Mid-American Conference weekly awards 15 times in the 2017-18 season. Saluki divers have earned Diver of the Week awards six times this season, four more than Illinois State which sits in second with two. Southern has the most Conference Swimmer of the Week Awards this season. Missouri State is in second with four. Only one other Valley program has swept the weekly awards this year, Northern Iowa did so on Oct. 17 when Molly Lembezeder was named the Swimmer of the Week and Izzy Bunchek was the Diver of the Week.
