Salukis hold steady in fourth at MAC Championships

After three days at the MAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Salukis remain solidified in fourth with 303.5 points. Miami (Ohio) is third with 480 points and Missouri State is in first.

In the first event of the day, the 400-yard IM, the Salukis qualified five swimmers for the finals. Junior Chris Cole led the way with a sixth-place finish with a time of 3:53.78. His prelim time of 3:53.02 was the fastest of any Saluki this season and was the second-fastest time in program history. Junior Alex Martinez was 10th overall, freshman Sam Drew was 12th, Kyle Berquist was 13th and sophomore Ryan Lehane was 14th.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Sophomore Tamas Hajtman finished sixth in the A final with a time of 48.31 for the fifth-fastest time in program history. Senior Joao Facciotti was eighth and junior Alex Netzel was 12th.

In the 200-yard freestyle junior Reilly Garman was seventh in the A final with a time of 1:38.76 in the finals. His prelim time of 1:38.63 was the fastest for Southern in the event this season. Junior Nolan Fahey was 16th.

Four Salukis qualified for the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke and it was sophomore Chris Phillips that led the way with an eighth place finish. His time of 55.66 was fourth fastest in school history. Drew was 10th, sophomore Jimmy Dooley was 12th and freshman Kyle Berquist was 15th.

In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Alex Crawford led the way with a time of 49.47, the fourth-fastest time in program history. Netzel was 14th and sophomore Ryan Lehane was 16th.

In the final event of the night, the 400-yard medley-relay, the team of Crawford, Phillips, Hajtman and Garman placed fourth with a time of 3:17.45.
