Saluki Track and Field places 17 on MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

The Southern Illinois track and field program placed 17 student-athletes on the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Scholar-Athlete team for the 2018 season, the Valley announced Monday.
In order to be eligible for the MVC Scholar-Athlete team, student-athletes must be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, hold at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have placed in the top-eight of an individual event or top-three in a relay event at the MVC Indoor or Outdoor Championships.
Of Southern's 17 honorees, 12 were women and five were men. Kezia Martin and Josh Maier each were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the third time in their respective careers while Bri'Anna Branch, Kelly O'Shea, Alicia Reed, Cain Hassim and Ricky Hurley all earned their second MVC Scholar Athlete Team selection. 10 of SIU's 17 honorees are first time recipients.
