ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Southern Illinois senior diver Madeleine (Lani) Cieszynski has been named a recipient of the Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award, conference commissioner Doug Elgin announced.
Cieszynski, a four-year member on the Saluki swimming and diving program, was one of 10-student athletes selected to receive the honor for the 2019-20 fall season. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be in good academic standing and demonstrate good citizenship through quality sportsmanship and significant community service.
Cieszynski majors in Animal Science with a concentration in Science and Pre-Veterinary Agricultural Sciences. She earned MVC Scholar-Athlete status as a freshman and has been named to the dean's list her last two semesters. The senior is a frequent volunteer at local animal shelters and has also volunteered at the Carbondale Boys and Girls Club and Saluki Athletics events.
The native of Franklin, Wisc. has tallied 19 top-five finishes on the boards in her career at SIU. This season, Cieszynski dove to career-best scores of 251.55 in the one-meter dive and 238.60 in the three-meter dive in a tri-meet against Valparaiso and Bellarmine.
