ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Southern Illinois women's swimming and diving team swept Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, the league announced today. Laura Carver earned Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season while Beibei Ji tabbed Diver of the Week for the ninth time in her career as a Saluki. The two student-athletes combined for three wins, two personal records and one school record at the SIU Invitational last weekend.
Carver helped SIU to an invite title with two wins and a runner-up finish. The senior broke the 200-yard individual medley school record with a time of 2:02.13, which bested current Saluki Samantha Parsons' record mark of 2:02.68 set during the 2015-16 season. Carver raced to a time of 4:20.74 in the 400-yard individual medley, just .90 seconds shy of the school record. At the midway point of the season, Carver has tallied eight first-place finishes and holds the top conference time in both IM events.
Ji earned the SIU Invite title in the three-meter dive with a career-best score of 356.55. She won the event by a 26-point margin. The Taiyuan, China native placed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 303.22. Out of the 14-diver field, she was one of two individuals to reach the 300-plateau in both events. Ji currently ranks first in the Valley in the three-meter and second in the one-meter.
