Southern Illinois hosts Arkansas State on Tuesday at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Salukis are going for a season sweep of the Red Wolves; earlier in the year, SIU pulled out a 4-3 win in Jonesboro, Ark. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. It's Military Appreciation Day, and all veterans and active duty military will receive free admission. Lt. Colonel Anthony Anderson will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. A pair of freshmen will be the starting pitchers in SIU's Matthew Steidl and A-State Noah Stone.

- Southern Illinois hosts Arkansas State for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+.
- The first meeting: SIU pulled out a 4-3 win at Arkansas State earlier this year. The Red Wolves entered that game 19-9 overall and coming off a series win at nationally ranked Coastal Carolina. SIU had a 4-1 lead, and Trey McDaniel got a strikeout to secure the win.

- SIU has stolen 99 bases, which ranks sixth in the nation. Individual Salukis rank 2-3-5-6 in the MVC in steals: Nikola Vasic (2nd, 18), Will LaRue (3rd, 17), Addison Fugitt (5th, 14), and Ian Walters (6th, 13).
- SIU has hit 25 sacrifice flies, which ranks 13th the nation. Ian Walters ranks fourth in the nation with seven sacrifice flies. In the first meeting between SIU and Arkansas State, the Salukis scored 3 of their 4 runs on sac flies.
- Trey McDaniel ranks 12th in the NCAA with nine saves, which also leads the Missouri Valley Conference. SIU bullpen coach Ryan Netemeyer led the MVC in saves each of the past two seasons. If McDaniel leads the MVC in saves this year, SIU will be the first Valley program since Wichita State (1997-01) to have a player leads the MVC in saves three-straight seasons.
