05/15/2019 | 5:33:00 | General
Ashley Wright, a 2019 alum of SIU, is the Director of Special Event Ticketing. In her role, she provides ticketing services for all SIU concerts, plays, musicals, and special events that require ticketing services. She also provides ticketing services to over 15 venues in the Southern Illinois region through the Southern Tickets Online Program.
In 2013, Ashley joined the SIU Athletics Department where she merged all campus ticket operations into one central operation, which reduced costs for the university, increased efficiency in campus wide ticket operations, and most importantly improved the customer service.
What is your connection to SIU?
I am an SIU Alum and I have worked at SIU for over ten years.
Why is the relationship between the Ticket and Development offices important to SIU's success?
Development and Ticketing go hand in hand and work together. Saluki Athletic Scholarship benefits are tied to tickets, so the two offices work closely together to make sure we are serving our patrons and fans at a high level.
Why do you give to SIU Athletics/SASF? Why should others give?
I give to the SASF because I am in the unique position of being able to see how these contributions help student– athletes and I believe in the cause.
Tell us about some of the best SIU memories that you have?
Some of my best SIU memories have been huge challenges that gave us an opportunity to come together and show what we are made of. The first one that comes to mind is 2009 Commencement. We were actually in the middle of a Commencement Ceremony at Shryock Auditorium when the May 8 derecho hit. We had to move 1,000 people into the basement until the storm passed. We came out of the building and found SIU and Carbondale devastated. Huge trees were down, there was no power for days, but we still had families in town and students that needed to graduate. The way the passionate staff of this university came together to make Commencement happen on the field of Saluki Stadium with no power was nothing short of amazing. Furthermore, the community in Carbondale came together to help each other cut down trees and clean up yards. The people with genuine passion for this institution and for this community are what make this place special.
