Salukis fall 2-0 in exhibition match against UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Salukis fell 2-0 to the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames in their second exhibition match of the preseason on Tuesday evening.Â
In the game's seventh minute, UIC's Maeve Riordan scored an unassisted goal to give the Flames an early 1-0 advantage. Nearly 25 minutes later, lightning caused for a delay in the match's 41st minute.Â
Once play resumed, UIC added to their lead with a goal off of a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to seal the match.
Freshman goalkeeper Sofia Howe played in all 90 minutes of tonight's contest and secured nine saves on UIC's 11 shots on goal.Â
Up Next: The Salukis return to play in the program's first-ever home exhibition on Aug. 17 against SEMO at 7 p.m.
