CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's soccer team will finish up their preseason with its first-ever home exhibition match against the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Salukis are coming off of a 2-0 defeat to the University of Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday, brining their preseason record to an even 1-1.
SCOUTING SEMO: The Redhawks are coming off of a 2018 campaign that saw the program go 5-8-5. SEMO faced four opponents last season that SIU will compete against in its 2019 campaign, going 3-1 with victories over Illinois Springfield (3-0), Morehead University (2-0) and Eastern Illinois (1-0) as well as a loss to Belmont University (2-1).Â
POSITION BATTLE: Through two exhibition matches, Dariana Mihalache, Nicole Raventos and Sofia Howe have all split time at goalie, with Howe playing all 90 minutes during Tuesday's 2-0 loss to UIC. In addition to leading the trio in minutes, Howe also is the leader in saves with nine, followed by Raventos with eight in 44 minutes of play and Mihalache with one in 45 minutes of action.Â
LOOKING AHEAD: Saturday's contest won't be the only time SIU sees SEMO this year, as the two programs are slated to play once more in the regular season on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.Â
After the completion of Saturday's contest, the Salukis will begin the regular season with five-straight home contests beginning with Illinois-Springfield on Aug. 23 and ending with IUPUI on Sept. 1.Â
HOME SWEET HOME: Saturday's exhibition marks the first home match for the Salukis in program history. T-shirts will be given to the first 600 fans who show proof of admission to the match. Free samples of sweet tea and pizza from Two Guys Pizza will also be available once inside the stadium. Fans are also encouraged to tailgate and take part in a new Saluki tradition, the pregame drum line.Â
Soccer scarves are also available for purchase with the proceeds directly benefiting the Saluki soccer program. Gray and maroon scarves are available for $20, while the striped gray and maroon scarves are available to those who support the Upper 90 Club.
