Five Things to Know: SIU vs. Rose-Hulman

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Coming off their first loss of the young season, the Southern Illinois University Salukis women's soccer squad (1-1 overall) looks to rebound when they welcome in NCAA DIII opponent Rose-Hulman (0-0) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Salukis fell 3-1 in their previous match to North Alabama University on Sunday. Junior forward Kathryn Creedon was the lone goal-scorer for the Salukis, having netted her first career goal in the 88th minute.
2. SCOUTING ROSE-HULMAN: Tuesday's match will serve as the first exhibition of the season for the Fightin' Engineers. Coming off of a 2018 campaign that saw the program go 10-8, the team brings a bevy of experience with 12 upperclassmen, all of whom have seen significant playing time at Rose-Hulman.
Senior forward Jessica Wells returns as the leading scorer from a season ago, having accounted for 10 goals and 10 assists in 18 games of action. Sophomore forward Sarah Shoemaker finished second on the team in scoring with five goals, followed by four players with four goals each. Junior Katie Demert returns in goal for the Fightin' Engineers after going 10-8 in 2018 with 65 saves. Head coach Amy Helliwell enters her 11th year with the program, owning a record of 88-86-11 in her tenure.
3. SALUKI STATS: Creedon has emerged as the club's leader in total points with three, as the junior has recorded a goal and an assist through two games. Freshmen Madison Bennion and Emma Spotak are the only other two Salukis to have scored a goal thus far. Bennion leads the club in minutes played with 137 out of a possible 180.
4. GOALIES IN ACTION: Through the team's first two games, all three freshmen have seen extended time in goal. Dariana Mihalache leads all goalies with 90 minutes of action, earning a 1-0 record and six saves over that span. Maddy Alaluf and Sofia Howe have each logged 45 minutes of play in net, with Alaluf leading the pair in saves with four.
5. FOLLOW ALONG: Live stats will be available for every home contest this season and can be viewed here. Tuesday's game is Taco Tuesday, with tacos being provided by Moe's Southwest Grill.
