Salukis Fall 3-0 to WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Southern Illinois (3-4-1 overall) earned their second consecutive loss as the team fell 3-0 to the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers (3-2-1) on Friday night.
WKU got things started in the seventh minute, scoring their first goal of the game by way of Ambere Barnett to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Hilltoppers didn't waste much time in scoring again, as Deven Jackson scored her first goal of the season just over two minutes later to push WKU to a 2-0 lead.
WKU went on to finish the half in complete control, owning the lead in overall shots by a margin of 17-1 and corner kicks at 7-0.
The Hilltoppers started off the second half by netting their third goal of the match in the 50th minute by way of Jackson's second goal of the evening. The Salukis managed to get three shots off in the second half but were unable to connect with the back of the net before being handed the loss.
In total, SIU was outshot 29-4, in addition to trailing in corner kicks 11-1. Freshman Dariana Mihalache played the first 64 minutes, allowing the three WKU goals but securing seven saves over that span.
Up Next:The Salukis return to Carbondale to open their home slate at the Lew Hartzog T&F Complex. SIU faces Morehead State on Sunday at 1 p.m. and Lipscomb on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
