Five Things to Know: SIU vs. Morehead State

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Returning home for the first time in two weeks, the Southern Illinois Salukis women's soccer team (3-4-1 overall) will welcome in the Morehead State Eagles (1-5) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Salukis are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Western Kentucky on Friday evening. Freshman Liz Brechtel led the team in total shots with three, followed by fellow classmate Madison Meiring with one. Goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache recorded seven saves to bump her season total to 47, which ties second in Division I.
2. SCOUTING MOREHEAD: The Eagles are entering Sunday's match in the midst of a three-game skid, with the most recent loss coming at the hands of Wright State in 2-1 fashion on Friday. A quartet of players share the team lead in goals with one, highlighted by sophomore defender Nicole Palmer, who earned All-Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer honors last season.
Kayla Landman and Grace Gaffney have shared time in goal this season, with Landman leading the pair in saves with 24. The Eagles are coached by Warren Lipka, who is coaching his 11th season with the program. In his 27 years as a head coach, Lipka owns a 261-244-53 overall record, including a 79-105-23 record at Morehead State.
3. SALUKI STATS: Brechtel and fellow freshman Emma Spotak share the team lead in goals with two apiece, while Spotak leads the team in overall points with five. Senior mid Andrea Rodriguez is the team leader in assists with two, while Spotak, Kathryn Creedon, Madison Bennion and Paityn Schneider are all tied with one. In goal, Mihalache is the leader in minutes (517:54), saves (47) and wins (2).
