Salukis Hold on to Tie Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (3-2-1 overall) battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (1-1-2) on Friday night.
After falling behind 1-0 in the match's fourth minute, the Salukis tied things up by way of a Liz Brechtel goal, her second of the year, off of assists from Emma Spotak and Andrea Rodriguez in the 57thminute. Spotak dribbled the ball nearly three-fourths the length of the field before firing a pass over to Brechtel, setting the freshman up with a clear shot to the back left of the net.
After not recording a shot in the first half (14-0), the Salukis managed to get seven off after Brechtel's goal but were unable to score before time expired.
In total, the Salukis were outshot 30-9, with 14 of PFW's shots coming on goal compared to SIU's three. Freshman goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache recorded 13 saves, setting a new career high.
Up Next:The Salukis will return to action on Sunday when they travel to face the Ohio University Bobcats (4-0) at 12 p.m.
